English guide

Discover Săvârșin.

Art, village heritage, living folk traditions and quiet hills on the Mureș Valley in western Romania.

Local art and memory

The Eugen Popa and Eugenia Hagiu Memorial House preserves painting, graphic art, furniture and decorative art. The house was bought by Eugen Popa’s parents in 1931 and donated with the collections in spring 2008. Visits must be arranged with the Arad Museum Complex; do not rely on an undated general museum timetable.

The Royal Domain

The country residence of the Romanian Royal Family: the castle park, the Royal Village, the Tea House and the Automobile Museum. Visits are guided group tours only, on weekends from 1 May to 31 October (10:00–18:00), booked in advance at +40 770 562 822 or contact@savarsinregal.ro.

Living traditions

On Christmas Eve the Dubași, young carol singers with drums, walk from house to house; the municipality describes a custom of asking each host’s permission before entering and singing around the family table. The Valea Mureșului folk ensemble was founded in 2014, with a junior group added in 2018. At the end of August the village Ruga brings folk song and dance to the square by the Cultural Centre.

Wooden churches & villages

The wooden church of the Three Holy Hierarchs in Troaș is one of the finest on the Lower Mureș Valley. The commune's villages, Căprioara, Cuiaș, Hălăliș, Pârnești, Temeșești, Toc, Troaș and Valea Mare, invite slow exploring.

Church, river and karst

The central Orthodox church is dedicated to the Holy Archangels Michael and Gabriel and is dated to 1899 in the local presentation. The Mureș bridge connection opened on 15 January 1872. South of the river, the Căprioara karst includes Sinesie’s Cave and Duțu’s Cave, the latter described as a nationally protected site. Tourist facilities and access are not confirmed: these are not self-guided cave stops.

Getting there

Săvârșin station is on the Arad–Deva railway, about 1 hour from Arad. By car, follow DN7 / E68 along the Mureș river. The nearest airports are Arad and Timișoara.
